Baseball Dream Day

 In Baseball Dream Day

Cancer couldn’t hold a pint-sized Toronto Blue Jays fan back from watching his favourite team at Rogers Centre!  Yesterday, Jaxson Tugnett, his mother Kelly, brother and uncle were able to enjoy the Jays/Yankees game thanks to the kindness of strangers.  It all started in April, when Kelly got a payday loan from a Cash 4 You store in Whitby.  The single mother turned to them after she was unable to purchase diapers for Jaxson, who was diagnosed with Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma at the tender age of 6 months.  He’s had his prostate and bladder removed as a result of the disease, which is why he needs diapers.   Due to his condition he has also been unable to attend school.  Staff at the Cash 4 You store at Dundas and Kendalwood in Whitby were so touched by Kelly’s story and positive attitude, that they took up a collection amongst themselves, putting together a Blue Jays gift basket for little Jaxson, which they presented him with in April.

Once the owner of Cash 4 You became aware of the situation, he arranged for Jaxson and his family to enjoy an all-expenses paid day of baseball, including tickets, food and transportation.  Steve McMillan, Head of Operations at Cash 4 You, says the goal was for Jaxson and his family to enjoy a Blue Jays game without any worries.  The day turned out to be a special early birthday celebration for Jaxson, who turns 6 this Wednesday.   The little boy, who loves to climb trees, draw and tell jokes, will have to undergo treatment until he is 18.  Kelly and Jaxson make several trips to Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children each year, their longest stay lasting 46 weeks, when he underwent chemotherapy as a toddler.  Kelly says despite all he’s been through; her son is a very brave little boy. The family was overjoyed to be able to spend time together and forget about cancer, if just for one day.
